It is in the major outlook on relationships that Indians are vastly different, in the way they perceive the institution of marriage, to those beliefs of other countries especially in the west. Many people have a pretty major misunderstanding of the topic of arranged marriages and in fact have a fairly negative attitude regarding arranged marriages. The best way to understand the reasoning behind such cultures is to put aside your own beliefs, opinions, and preconceived ideas in order to see more clearly before dismissing it as wrong. Here are some points to better understand the Culture of Arranged Marriages in India: The Acceptance of Arranged Marriages in India Although most westerners cannot fathom marrying someone they do not love, it is incredibly interesting to note that arranged marriages is not something which is fought against, or a source of protest among the young of India. The truth, surprisingly, is the exact opposite, many of the youth in India prefer arranged marriages, as it gives them the time and the ability to enjoy their youth without the constant worry and struggle of relationships that comes about in western culture. The west generally believe that one needs to have live-in relationship or a long courtship before they can get married to know whether they are sexually as well as generally compatible or not. The fact that an arranged marriage is actually preferred in many cases in India, and may even indeed be a healthy and happier form of love than the marriages experienced in the west comes as somewhat of a shock or at least a surprise to most. It can be said that an arranged marriage in India is not based on feelings, but rather on commitment. We base our marriage on commitment, not on feelings.

I have been dating a guy for just over three weeks. We were both upfront with our intentions from the start both want a long term relationship and have similar goals eg travelling, starting a family. Organising to catch up can be difficult because he works early and very long hours which leaves him exhausted by the night…. We slept together on the fourth date which I initiated but afterwards I regretted as I thought that I had rushed things.
We communicate mainly through txt and he messages me several times everyday to check in and ask how I am. We may go a couple of days without seeing each other and he will let me know he misses me and is keen to catch up soon as possible. He introduced me to his parents and I have had dinner and stayed over. He had admitted that he really likes me and is happy with our dating progress so far.
Sounds great so far right? Or make more effort? I am worried I am over investing my time and emotions into this and worried about it not working out….

At most, it is a reliable source of advice for women who want to improve their chances with the opposite sex. I knew him through my family and hadn’t seen him in a while. After I told him a little about her, he asked me a very pointed question: I had no answer for him.
Any more time I spent with her was time I wasn’t spending looking for someone I could end up with. It wasn’t very long afterwards that I broke up with her. Since then I’ve messed around with more girls than I can count, but I have never dated a girl that I knew I couldn’t marry – because ultimately that is what I want. I remember having the same mindset myself at that age. I see it still in some of my friends.
This notion isn’t the exception, it is the norm. Granted, no one hopes for this outcome and we have these peripheral ideas about needing time with a person to test the relationship , but in the end of the day, serial relationships do more harm than good.

Most of that time is caused by the fact that their is rarely the right environment that I need to get to know people. For example, in my first year of uni, by the end of the year, I had an inkling as to who I knew I could get on with, but I hadn’t really made a connection yet though I had a few acquaintances and people that I liked.
In the second year currently , I thought all summer about the people I liked and made more of an effort when I came back. I got to know a lot more people because of the teams we were in. That effort really made the difference, I can honestly say I’ve never ever had a proper group of friends in my entire life until now. We are still not really, properly close yet but that’s because they’re all quite extroverted and popular so it’s hard to get time with them. So yeah, me making any semblance of friendship at uni took about 14 months,: And even that is rare.
